ኣብ’ዚ ዝሓለፈ ሰሙን “በረከት ስምዖን” [መብራህቱ ገብረህይወት ፡ወይ መብራህቱ ገብርሄት] ኣብ ሓደ ናይ “ተቓወምቲ” ኤርትራውያን ናይ ዓረብኛ ፓልቶክ (መደብ ዕላልመሓዙት) መጺኡ ንዝቀረበሉ ሕቶታት ምላሽ ሂቡ ነይሩ። ሓደ ካብ’ቲ ሕቶታት ብዛዕባ’ቲ ጌና ዘይተዛዘመ ጉዳይ ዶብ ኢትዮጵያ- ኤርትራ ኮይኑ፡ ኣብ ስለምንታይ ኢትዮጵያ ትሕንግድ ከምዘላ ዘተኩር እዩ።

ሕቶ፡ ኢትዮጵያ ነዚ ናይ ባድመ ጉዳይ ብሰላም ብሕጊ ኪፈትሖ እየ ክትብል ስለዝሰማዕና ሓቂ መሲሉና ብመትከል ደረጃ ተቀቢልና ኪትፈትሖ እያ እናበልና ክንጽበ ጸኒሕና። ክሳዕ ሎሚ ከም ዝረኣናዮ ግን እቲ ዝተጸበናዮ ኣይኮነን አትዮጵያ’ውን ነቲ ዝተሓንጸጸ ዶብ ኤርትራ-ኢትዮጵያ ኣይተቐበለቶን። እዚ ድማ ነቲ ዝበልኩሞ ከምንጠራጠሮ ይገብረና ኣሎ ንህግደፍ’ውን ኣብ ስልጣን ንኪቅጽል መመኻነዪ ይኾኖ ኣሎ። ስለምንታይ ነቲ ዝተዋህበ ፍርዲ ከምዘይተቐበልኩሞ እስክ ግለጸልና፧

ምላሽ፡ እዚ ናይ ባድመ ፍርዲ ዘይምቕባል ነገር ክልተ ነገራት ፈላሊና እንተንርእይ።

መጀመርያ፡ ናብ ቤትፍርዲ ንኺድ ዝበልና ንሕና ኢና። ናይ ይግብኣኒ ሕቶ ዘለዎ ካብ ናብ ኵናት ዝኸይድ ናብ ቤትፍርዲ ኪኸይድ አለዎ ዝብል መርገጺ አሒዝና ናብ ቤትፍርዲ ንኺድ ኢልና ኢና።
ናብ ቤትፍርዲ ኬድና ተሳዒርና ኢና፡ ንፈልጥ ኢና፡ ኣይተሳዓርናን ኣይበልናን። ቤትፍርዲ ተጋግዩ እዩ። ግን ቤትፍርዲ ዋላ ተጋግዩ እንተወሰነ ናይ ዳናይነት ስልጣን ንቤትፍርዲ እዩ ተዋሂቡ። ኣብ ቤትፍርዲ እንተ ኣቲና፡ ኣብኡ እንተበጺሕና፡ ንውሳነታቱ ካብ ምኽባር ወጻኢ ካልእ ዕድል የብልናን። ዋላ ዝተጋገየ ውሳነታት እንተኾነ ንቕበል ንብል። ስለ’ዚ መጀመርያ ብመትከል ንቕበል ኢልና፡ [ድሓር ከኣ] ብመትከል ጥራሕ ዘይኮነ ንውሳነታት ናይ ቤትፍርዲ ንቕበሎ ኢና ኢልና።
ብድሕሪኡ እንታይ’ዩ ኮይኑ፧

እዚ ምስ በልና ኣብ ኣፈጻጽማ ብዛዕባ ህዝብታት ስለዝኾነ ንዛተ ኢልና። ብዛዕባ ህዝብታት ንምዃኑ ቍሩብ ምሳሌታት ኣምጺአ ከረድኣኩም። መሬት ኤሪት(፧) ናይ ኢትዮጵያ ከምዘይኮነ ይፍለጥ። ኣብኡ ዝነብሩ ኤርትራውያን ኔሮም። እዚኣቶም ምስቲ ንኢትዮጵያ ዝተዋህበ መሬቶም ንኢትዮጵያ ኪኸዱ ኣይደልዩን’ዮም ።እሳቶም ናብ ኢትዮጵያ ኪመጽኡ አይደልዩን’ዮም። ኤርትራውያን እዮም። ናብ ኤርትራዮም ኪምለሱ ዝደልዩ። ኣብ ኤርትራ’ዮም ኪነብሩ ዘለዎም። እዞም ህዝብታት እዚኣቶም መሬቶም ናብ ኢትዮጵያ እሳቶም ናብ ኤርትራ ይኸዱ። ብተመሳሳሊ፡ ኣብ ከባቢ ባድመ፡ መሬት ኢትዮጵያ ምዃኑ ንሕና እንፈልጦ፡ ግን ናብ ኤርትራ ዝተወሰነ ኣሎ። ኣብቲ ከባቢ ዝነብሩ ሰባት እቲ መሬት ናታትኩም’ዩ(፧) እንተተባህሉ’ውን ናብ ኤርትራ ኣይኸዱን እዮም። ኢትዮጵያውያን ኢና ኢሎም ዝኣምኑ ኣለዉ። ናብ ኢትዮጵያ ኢና ክንምለስ ኢሎም ዝኣምኑ ኣለዉ። ሓላፍ ዘላፍ….
[እንታይ ይኹኑ እዞም ሰባት እዚ ኣቶም፧]

ከምዚ ዓይነት ሕቶ [ምቕራብ] ነውሪ የብሉን። ነውሪ የብሉን ኢልና ንኣምን ምኽንያቱ ናይ ህዝብታት ጥቕሚ፡ ናይ ህዝብታት መሰል፡ ካብ ምዝንባል ናጻ ዚኾነ ናብራ ንኪነብሩ ምእንታን፡ ኮፍ ኢልና ተዛቲና፡ ሓላፍነት ኣሎና፡ ንእለዮ ኢና ኢልና። ንከምዚ ዓይነት ሕቶ ብዘተ ንምፍታሕ ቅሩብነት ዝሰኣነ መንግስቲ ኤርትራ’ዩ።
ካል ኣይ፡ እቲ ናይ ዶብ [ሕቶ] ዋላ’ኳ ናይ መሬት ሕቶ [ጥራሕ] እንተመሰለ ልዕሊኡ ዚኸይድ ብዙሕ ነገራት አሎ። ኣብ መንጎ ክልቲኡ ዓድታት ሕጋዊ ዚኾነ፡ ሰርዓት ዘለዎ፡ ኤክኦኖምያዊ ርክባት፡ ናይ ንግድ ርክባት፡ ናይ ህዝቢ ምንቅስቓስ፡ [ወዘተ] ኪህሉ ኣለዎ። ከምኡ’ውን ንሰላም ዝምልከት፡ ዘላቒ ንሰላም ዘምጽእ ነገር ኪህሉ ኣለዎ። ኣብ ገለገሊኡ ናይቲ ክኦሚሽን ውሳነ፡ ንሓንቲ ገዛ ኣብ ክልተ ዚመቅልዩ፡ ናብ ኤርትራን ኢትዮጵያን። ከምዚ ዓይነት ውሳነ ኣብዝተወሰነሉ፡ ሰላም ንሓዋሩ ክትረክብ እንተኴንካ፡ ኮፍ ኢልካ ተዛቲኻ ምእላይ የድሊ’ዩ ዚብል መርገጺ [ኣሎንና]። ነዚ [መርገጺዚ ንመንግስቲ ኤርትራ] ኣቕሪብናሉ፡ ነጺጉዎ። ስለዚ፡ [ናይዚ ክኦሚሽን ውሳነ] ኣፈጻጽማ ከመይ እዩ ኪኸውን ዝኽእል፧

ናይ [ዝኾነይኹን] ቤትፍርዲ ውሳነ፡ ብአምሓርኛ “የኣፈጻጸም ጕዳይ” ዚብሃል ኣሎ። ድሕሪ ኩሉ ናይ ቤትፍርዲ ውሳነ ፡ ናይ ኣፈጻጽማ ሕቶ ይልዓል። ኣብ ናይ ኣፈጻጽማ ሕቶታት ንዛተ ምባል ንምንታይ ከም ሕማቕ ይርአይ፧ ብወገን ኢትዮጵያ፡ ነቲ ውሳነ ኣይንቕበልን ዚብል መርገጺ የለን። [ኣብ] ኣፈጻጽምኡ ግን ንዘራረበሉ፡ ምኽንያቱ ናይ ዶብ ሕቶ ብዛዕባ ሰባት እዩ፡ ብዛዕባ መሬት ኣይኮነን። ብዛዕባ መሬት ዚግደስ ፡ብዛዕባ ህዝብታት ዘይግደስ፡ ሰብ ኣብ መሪሕነትውን ኪህሉ ኣለዎ ኢልና ኣይንኣምንን ኢና። እሞ፡ ከምዚ ጌርና እነተንርእዮ ጽቡቕ ኪኸውን’ዩ ንብል። ብዝኾነ ንኤርትራ ዚተዋህበ [ንቃስ(፧)] መሬት ናብ ኢትዮጵያ ኪመጽእ ኣለዎ ዚብል ነገር የብልናን።
ስለ’ዚ፡ ዘተ ንግበር ምባል ዘይንቡር ኣይኮነን። ንቡር ጌርና ክንወስዶ ኣሎንና። ተዛቲኻ ንክልቲኡ ዓድታት ዚጥዕም ነገር ምግባር ይክኣልዩ፡ ይግባእዩ። እሞ፡ ኣብዚስ ነቲ ዚዓንቀጸ መንግስቲ፡ ነቲ ንዘተ እምቢ ዚበለ መንግስቲ፡ ኢና ክንነቅፍ ዘሎንና እምበር፡ ውሳነ ተቀቢልና ኣፈጻጽማ ግን ኮፍ ኢልና ንዛተ ንዝበለ መንግስቲ ክንነቅፍ ዘሎንና መሲሉ አይስምዓንን’ዩ።

ዘረባ ኢትዮጵያ፡ ብሓፈሻኡ ካብ ዓሚስ ሎሚ ይሓይሽ
“ናብ ቤትፍርዲ ኬድና ተሳዒርና ኢና፡ ንፈልጥ ኢና፡ ኣይተሰዓርናን ኣይበልናን ….ቤትፍርዲ ዋላ ተጋግዩ እንተወሰነ ስልጣን ንቤትፍርዲ እዩ ተዋሂቡ። ናይ ዳኝነት ስልጣን ንቤትፍርዲ እዩ ተዋሂቡ፡፡ ኣብ ቤትፍርዲ እንተ ኣቲና …. [ናቱ] ውሳነታት ካብ ምኽባር ወጻኢ ካልእ ዕድል የብልናን።ዋላ ዝተጋገየ ውሳነታት እንተኾነ ንቕበል ንብል …. ብመትከል ጥራሕ ዘይኮነ ንውሳነ ናይ ቤትፍርዲ ንቕበሎ ኢልና። ….

[ኣብ] ብድመ ናይ መሬት ኢንተረስት [ግዳሰት] የብልናን። ዋላ [ጥር ትብል] ናይ መሬት ኢንተረስት [ግዳሰት]፡ ማለት ናይ ኢትዮጵያ ዘይኮነ መሬት ናብ ኢትዮጵያ ኪመጽእ ድሌት የብልናን። ዋላ ናይ ኢትዮጵያ መሬት ብሕጊ ተበይኑ ናብ ካልእ [ንኣብነት ናብ ኤርትራ] ይኺድ እንተተባሂሉ፡ ብሕጊ ስለዝተበየነ ጸገም የብልናን ኢልና። ንሕና ተገዳስነት ሰላምን ዘላቒ ናይ ሓባር ረብሓታት ከመይ ጌርና ንሰርሕ ዝብል ነገር፡ እሱ’ዩ ዘገድሰና።”

ሓደሓደ ርእይቶታት።
ጽቡቕ፡ ደይ ኤርትራስ ድኣ ከም’ዚ ክትሰምዕ እያ ክትጽበ ጸኒሓ። መልስና ድማ፡ ብናተይ ኣረኣእያ፡ ኣብ ቤትፍርዲ ዓወት ብዘይምርካብኩም ምኽንያት ተፈጢሩ ዝነበረ ስነኣእምሮኣዊ ጸገም እንቋዕ በለየልኩም። ደሓን ሕራይ፡ እቲ ቤትፍርዲ ዝወስኖ ጉዳያት፡ በቲ ቤትፍርዲ ብዝሰርዖ ናይ ኣፈጻጽማ ኣገባባት መሰረት ንተግብሮ። ተሳኢሉ ዝተወድአ ዶብ ኣሎ፡ ኣብ መሬት ይተግበር ምልክት ይጨራሕ፡ ካብቲ ናብ ኤርትራ ዝተበየነ መሬት ሰራዊትኩም ኣውጽኡልና፡ ንኩሉ ጉዳያት ዝምድናታት ኢትዮጵያ-ኤርትራ በብደረጃኡ እንተዘይኮይኑ፡ብሕንሳብ ኪውዳእ ኣይክኣልን እዩ፡ ስለ’ዚ በብቀዳምነቱ ተሰሪዑ በብደረጃ ንስርሓዮ። ቅድሚ ኩሉ ዝስራዕ እቲ ኣብ ውግእ ዘብጽሓና ናይ ዶብ ግርጭት ስለዝኾነ፡ ናይ ውግእ ኣዋጅኩም ሰርዝዎ፡ ነቲ ጨርሒ ዶብ ዝሃንጽ ኣካል ስርሑ ኪፍጽም ዕድል ንሃቦ።

ኤርትራ ካብ ቅድም ጀሚራ እዚ ናይ ዶብ ጉዳይ ብሰላማዊ መንገዲ (ብሕጊ ወ/ወይ ብዝርርብ) እንተዘይኮይኑ፡ ብውግእ ኪውዳእ ከምዘይክኣል ኣፍሊጣ እያ። ብናተይ ኣረኣእያ፡ ኤርትራ ዘይተቐበለቶ ወይ ዘይትቕበሎ ዓይነት ዘተ ነቲ ብናይ ዶብ ክኦሚሽን ዝተወድአ ብይን ናይ ዶብ ሕንጻጻት ወ ናይ ምልክት ነቝጣታት ንምቕያር ብኢትዮጵያ ወ አመሪካ ዝድፍኣሉ ዝነበረ ዘይሕጋዊ ዘተ ድኣምበር ብድፉኑ ንዝኾነ ካልእ ዓይነታት ዘተ ኣይነበረን፡ ኣይኮነን’ውን። ብዛዕባ’ዚ ጉዳይ’ዚ ኣብ ምዝርራብ ይዅን ኣብ ስጉምቲ ምውሳድ ክትሕንግድ ዝጸንሐት ፡መዛግብቲ ይቀላዕ፡ይርአይ፡ ኤርትራ ኣይኮነትን፡ ኢትዮጵያ እያ። ብዙሕ ዘረባ ወ ስብከት ገዲፍኩም ነቲ ውሳነታት ክትትግብርዎ ጀምሩ። ቅድሚ ኩሉ፡ ሰራዊት ኢትዮጵያ ካብ’ቲ ንኤርትራ ዝተዋህበ መሬት ከነውጽእ ኢና፡ ኣብ ኣፍጻጽማ ናይ’ዚ ፍሉይ ስርሒት’ዚ ምስ መንግስቲ ኤርትራ ክንዘራረብሉ ኢና ቢልኩም ኣውጁ እሞ ከመይ ጌሩ እቲ ፖለቲካዊ ሃዋህው ክምዝቕየር ክትርእዩ ኢኹም።

ናይ መብራህቱ ገብረህይወት ወይ “በረከት ሲምዖን” ዓንቃሪቦ

መብራህቱ ገብርሄት፡ ብዙሕ ትጎዪ ኣሎኻ። ቀዳማይ ዘገድሰና፡ ከም ጎረባብቲ መጠን መሬት ኢትዮጵያ ወይ ኤርትራ ካበይ ጀሚሩ ኣበይ ይውዳእ እሞ ምልክት ይገበረሉ፡ ድሓር ኣብ መንጎና ናይ ኤክኦኖሚ ፡ንግድ፡ ወዘተ ርክብ ኪህሉ ዶ እዩ ኣይህሉን ንውስን። ኢትዮጵያ’ኮ ግድን ኣይኮነን ምስ ኤርትራ ዝኾነ ዓይነት ዝምድና ኪህልዋ። ፍቓድ ኢትዮጵያ ወ ኤርትራ ሓደ እንተኾይኑ ዝምድናታተን የማዕብላ፡ እንተዘይኮይኑ ግን ኣብ ፍሉጥ ዝዶቡ መመሬተን ድላየን ይገብራ። ኤርትራ፡ ንመረድኢ ዝኣክል፡ ንሲንጋፖር ከም ኣብነት ወሲዳ ክትምዕብል እንተደልያ፡ ኢትዮጵያ ከኣ ነዚ ዘይትድግፍ እንተኾይና፡ ምምዕባል ዝምድናታተን ከመይ’ሉ ይቕጽል ኢልካ ይሕሰብ፧

ዶብ ብዛዕባ መሬት ዶ እዩ ብዛዕባ ሰብ፧

ከም ናይ መብራህቱ ኣበሃህላ፡ “ዶብ ብዛዕባ መሬት ኣይኮነን ብዛዕባ ሰብ እዩ።” እንታይ ማለትዩ እዚ፧ ሰብ ኣብ መሬት ይነብር ብመሬት ይናበር ምስ መወተ ድማ ናብ መሬት ይገብእ። ዶብ ማለት መሬት ኣይኮነን፡ ሰብ ማለትውን ኣይኮነን። ዶብ ማለት ናይ ሰባት ፡ ልዕልነታውያን ሃገራት፡ክዋነታት፡መንግስታት፡ወዘተ ናይ መሬት ዋንነት ወይ ትሕዝቶ ደረት፡ ወይ መፈላልዪ ሕንጻጽ፡ ወይ ምልክት፡ ድ ኣምበር ሰብ ወይ መሬት ማለት ኣይኮነን። ዶብ እምበኣር ወነንቲ ወይ ተሓዝቲ መሬት ነናቶም መሬት ብንጹር ፈሊጦም ተኸባቢሮም ብሰላም ንኪነብሩ ዘገልግል ሰብዝሰርሖ ጥበብ እዩ። ናይ ዶብ ምልክት ድማ ኣብ መሬት ወይ ኣብ ስእሊመሬት ይንብ’በር። ስለዚ ዶብ ብዛዕባ መሬት እዩ፡ ብዛዕባ ሰብ ድማ እዩ።

ዶብ ብዛዕባ ሰባት ወይ ህዝብታት ጥራይውን እንተዝኸውን፡ ነየኖት ኢና ዝያዳ ሚዛን እንህቦም፧ ነቶም ንኤርትራ ወይ ኢትዮጵያ ዝቝሙ ክዋግኡ ዝጸንሑ ህዝብታት ፡ወይ ነቶም ዜግነቶምን መሬቶምን ዘይሰማማዕ ዓድታት፡ ወይሲ ነቶም ገዝኦም ዝምቀል ሰባት፧ ክንደይ ሰባትዮም ገዛውቶም ዚምቀል ዘሎ፧ ቀዳምነት ዚወሃቦ ጉዳይ ኣብ መንጎ ህዝብታት ኢትዮጵያ ወ ኤርትራ ብጠቕላላ ሓፈሻዊ ሰላም ምምጻእ እዩ፡ ብድሕሪኡ ናብ ጉዳያት ናይቶም ብምቅይያር ናይ ዶብ ምኽንያት ዝሽገሩ ሰባት ትወርድ። ውሑዳት ኣብ ዶብ ዘለዉ ሰባት ከይሽገሩ ኢልካ ናይ ጠቕላላ ህዝብታት ክልተ ሃገራት ሰላም ምዕጋት ቅቡል ምኽንያት ኣይኮነን።
ናይዞም ኣብ ዶብ ዘለዉ ሰባት ጉዳይ ሎሚ ብህጹጽ እንተዘይተፈቲሑ ንመጻኢ ብቀጻሊ ንክልቲኤን ሃገራት ሰላም ኪከልአንዩ ምባልውን ቅቡል ኣይኮነን፡ ምኽንያቱ ኣብ ግዝኣትመሬት ኢትዮጵያ ወይ ኤርትራ ዚነብሩ ብሕጊ ሃሃገሮም ብስነስርዓት ኪናበሩ ስለዝኾኑ።

    • You can not link Badime with Issayas. Do you mean that Badime should remain under occupation in order to make issayas unhappy. Do you mean the border commission awarded Badmi to Eritrea to make issayas happy and to make Meles unhappy.

    We need action, not naive preaching.
    No one can be deceived by his (Bereket) cheap campaign trying to win minds and hearts of Eritrean people.
    He has to come back from betrayal to trustworthy action, which is implementation without precondition. Politicizing the border issue would not change the verdict.

    Reading between the lines of the Dedebit Einstein’s answers, he basically wants a referendum be held in Badme to determine whether the wave of Tegaru illegal settlers who populated Badme after the 1998-2000 war want to become part of Ethiopia or Eritrea. And according to his wishful thinking, if the Tegaru illegal settlers choose to become part of Ethiopia, then Badme becomes an Ethiopia territory, and all their psychological problems will be cured. hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    I don’t think the Dedebit delinquent can fool my 4 year old twins with such primitive tricks, leave alone the very generous and truly wise Eritrean people upon whose shoulders he stood to jump over the fence of the Minilik palace in 1991 to come to power in Ethiopia!

    Speaking of the very wise Eritreans, in the summer of 2007 I traveled to Keren to visit my beloved 92-year old grandfather (Allah bless his soul), whose health was failing during that time, but his mind was sharp as a tack. One of my memorable moments with him was when he told me about the history of the Eritrean struggle for independence from its inception to the current state of the “no war no peace” that has forced Eritreans to wage yet another struggle to assert their sovereignty.

    At first I was taken aback when Grandpa said: “Badme is a nut!”, though he later clarified his statement using a real-life metaphor that went as follows.

    My grandfather was a very hard-working farmer in the lowlands of Eritrea— a fertile region known for its wildlife… from gazelles, exotic birds, elephants and armies of monkeys that occasionally invaded his nut growing plantation. Tired of the monkeys rampaging through his plantation at night and destroying his nut trees, Grandpa came up with a plan to capture the unwelcome intruders while he was away. And this is what he said he did….

    He removed a nut from its shell and placed it inside a wide-mouth bottle (commonly used for milk in Eritrea), and tied the bottle to a nut tree with a rope. Sooner or later, an unsuspecting monkey swings by, smells the delicious nut inside the bottle and slips its hand to grab it, but the neck of the bottle is too narrow for the monkey to withdraw its hand while holding the nut.

    You would think that the monkey would let go of the nut and escape, wouldn’t you? But it never does. hhhhhhhhhhh It never occurs to the greedy monkey that it can’t have both the nut and its freedom. That delicious nut (Badme) becomes a deadly trap. The greedy monkey with its fist wrapped around the nut (Badme) continues to pull and pull, never realizing the danger its in. And as long as the monkey keeps its fist wrapped around the nut (Badme), the monkey is trapped.

    At daybreak, my grandpa arrives at his farm, captures the invading monkeys with their hands stuck in bottles tied to the nut trees, and he euthanized them the best way he knew how. :-)

    Grandpa said the nut is Badme. The bottle is the “no war no peace” state. The monkeys are the greedy weyanes. And the wise farmer is the Eritrean people. The weyane monkeys are faced with a dilemma with two equally bad options. Withdrawing from Badme means a sudden death to their minority regime in the hands of the Ethiopian people who will raise the question why over 100,000 Ethiopian soldiers were made to die in the war in the first place? And to continue on with the status quo also means a slow and an excruciating death as they keep oppressing the Ethiopian people to prolong their stay in power while facing fierce armed opposition in Ethiopia. Either way they can’t escape the imminent death of their most hated minority regime.

    I miss Grandpa. He was the world to me :-(

        Borders are about people and demarcation is meaningless if it is not going to bring about sustainable peace between the two nations. The war between Ethiopia and Eritrea was never about the borders and demarcating the border without ironing out the outstanding issues is not going to solve any problem. For this reason the Eritrean government, which actually started the conflict, needs to engage itself in dialogue with the Ethiopians.

          I think you are unnecessarily confusing the issues related to borders and people. Generally speaking, there is no doubt that all countries,States, governments, nations, ethnos, villages,or families are all “about people”; and their affairs are also “about people”. In that sense, borders are “about people”. War or peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea regarding borders are definitely “about people”. But you have to clearly state your case by specifying exactly what issues “about people” you are talking about. There are an infinite number of human or social affairs that are “about people”. All matters “about people” are not the same, and should not be treated the same at all times and under all circumstances.

          In the case of the Ethiopia-Eritrea border, the conflict is the result of territorial claims. That means Ethiopia and Eritrea had different understandings on where the edges of Ethiopian or Eritrean territories were. The conflict was not about which people were Ethiopians or Eritreans; or if certain group of people in the border areas, based on their claims of allegiance/citizenship to either Eritrea or Ethiopia, could determine the land they used or occupied belonged to which nation. Then and now, they cannot do so because, in Ethiopia, the Federal State of Ethiopia, and in Eritrea, the State of Eritrea, own all land in each country’s territory, respectively. In the Ethiopia-Eritrea border conflict, the issue of greatest importance is, therefore, the demarcation of the borderlines between the territories of Ethiopia and Eritrea. Doing so would solve the problem of border claims and counter-claims, and, as a result, end the conflicts and wars that could follow because of them. Doing so would also be the first step towards sustainable peace.

          Borders, in the Ethiopia-Eritrea case, are lines separating Ethiopian and Eritrean territories. Clearly defining and demarcating the borderlines on the ground is also “about people”. For that reason, the borders are primarily about the two States, about the demarcated boundaries of their territories, and the peace between them. Implementing “as is” the verdict of the Border Commission is also “about people” in Ethiopia or Eritrea. As already anticipated by the Ethiopia-Eritrea border treaty, some people inhabiting the border areas could be adversely affected by the final demarcation, and Eritrea has promised to do everything in its power to ease their inconviences and hardships.

          If Ethiopia, through Mr. “Bereket”, is trying to say that there is any territory that it is convinced belonged to Eritrea, with Eritreans living there, and believes that it was for whatever reason apportioned to Ethiopia, whether Ethiopia believes that the border is “about people” or not, and wants to officially give the territory back to Eritrea, we would have no problem with it. However, the border treaty between them does not force one country to accept whatever the other demands.

          Both States agreed to accept the final verdict without question or equivocation, for the sake of sustainable peace and because it is “about people”. Eritrea has accepted it. and Ethiopia should do the same without any conditions, for doing so is “about people”.
