Ethiopia’s government denied a Reuters report that it made further attacks inside Eritrea.

“That’s not correct,” Getachew Reda, the Foreign Ministry’s public diplomacy and communications director, said by phone from Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, today. “There’s been no further attacks” after a raid two days ago inside Eritrea’s territory, he said.

Ethiopian troops today carried out more attacks on rebels in the north of Eritrea around Badme, Reuters said, citing an unidentified Ethiopian government official. Continue reading »

A number of the major news agencies reported on 15 March 2012 that the Ethiopian armed forces carried out military raid in three different localities inside sovereign Eritrean territories.  Without any qualms, the Ethiopian government’s spokesperson, who announced to the international media concerning the gratuitous aggression, also added that more attacks may be carried out in the future. Asmara, 16 March 2012 – Mr. Osman Saleh, Eritrean Foreign Minister, on March 15 delivered a message from President Isaias Afwerki to Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces of Egypt.

During the meeting, the two sides reached consensus to develop relations in all sectors between the brotherly people of Eritrea and Egypt and discussed the objective situation in the region in general and that of the Horn of Africa in particular.

Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi commended the strong commitment of President Isaias and reaffirmed that Egypt would work in cooperation with Eritrea to serve the interest of the two sisterly countries and for the prevalence of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa region.   Continue reading »

Government Communication Affairs Office of Ethiopia said yesterday’s attack against terrorist camps in Eritrea will convey the right message to the Eritrean government that violation of Ethiopia’s borders cannot continue indefinitely. 
 
Early yesterday morning the Ethiopian Defense forces attacked  military targets 18 KMs inside Eritrea where the Eritrean government trained, armed and deployed hit and run terrorist and subversive groups, including the one which recently attacked, killed and abducted European tourists in the Afar region of Ethiopia. 
 
The Ethiopian military units have safely returned to camp after successfully carrying out this proportional military measure intended to safeguard Ethiopia’s security along its border with Eritrea.
 
Ethiopia firmly believes that disputes between the two neighboring countries can and should only be solved by peaceful means. Based on this principled position, Ethiopia has repeatedly expressed its firm resolve to engage in dialogue and negotiations with the Eritrean government. 
 
Despite Ethiopia’s numerous efforts to reach a peaceful and negotiated settlement, the Eritrean government has chosen to continue with its belligerent   attacks on civilians and infrastructural targets through its surrogates outfits. Continue reading »

(Reuters) – Ethiopian troops have carried out more attacks on Ethiopian rebels inside Eritrea on Saturday, a day after Eritrea urged United Nations action against Ethiopia for a previous attack inside its territory.
